What Customers Say About Hot Tuna:

His response was, "Great Harp and the music made him think of his favorite group of all time, the Greatful Dead." Vicki M. Love music by Hot Tuna. I especially like the "Winning Boy Blues." The CD was a gift for my brother.

With this band, however, both sides of the fence are brillantStrictly speaking, you could divide Hot Tuna's blues the way all blues is divided--rural and urban. This is not to knock traditional rural blues, but you'll know the second you turn this on you are not hearing a Leadbelly album.

The intimacy is laced through the album, as is the duo's detailed picking and carefully improvised bass. This was recorded in a club in 1970: you hear glasses dropping, the audience close to the stage.

Yellow Fever is one of Hot Tuna's electric masterpieces. Even when Kaukonon and Cassidy are playing accoustic blues, it is never too rural, too down home. There playing and technique, their sense of rhythm placement, is so sophisticated, coming from psychadelic rock, even their work in this strain has an accomplished polish.

It's all here in full detail, and makes this a master debut. This is accoustic.

But with this band, that partially misses the mark.

This is one of my all time favorite albums. I have the vinyl of this album and have loved it since I purchased back in the early 70s. I purchased the CD to be able to listen to it in my car and was pleasantly surprised to find the additional tracks that I did not notice when I was purchasing it.

If you love earthy blues, with fine guitar work and good 'bluesy' vocals, then this album is for you - highly recommended. This is an album that I had to have - I wore out my old vinyl copy and was delighted to find that it was now available on CD.

This is a good remastering, good bonus tracks. Before I had finished listening to this album I ordered my next "lost" music album, "Super Session". I remember how well pressed and quiet that vinyl was, the recording quality so fine, the dynamic range so good I considered it one of the ultimate test albums for customers equipment. (Not MY copy, mind you). Having decided to recreate a library of some of my favorite "lost" music I worked my way down my list to Hot Tuna. Hope it is as good as this. It remains an excellent selection of music performed almost impossibly well. I just put it on, and realized this should have been at the very top of my list. When this album was released I was service manager in a Hi Fi store, and I had very fine equipment at home.
